Is a QDRO something I can do myself?

Answer: No, because a QDRO (Qualified Domestic Relations Order) is technical and legal document that is not easy to draw up. If a 401k plan is divided incorrectly, the parties could get hit with a big (unnecessary) tax bill. Be sure to let your attorney draw up the QDRO as part of the divorce settlement.
