MassMutual Captures #1 Ranking on InformationWeek 500 for Wireless Enrollment Innovation
SPRINGFIELD, MA, September 12, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- MassMutual Retirement Services has been awarded the No. 1 ranking in this year's InformationWeek 500 "Wireless Innovation" category for its e4(SM) wireless enrollment technology. MassMutual pioneered the patent-pending e4 technology, short for Electronic Enhanced Enrollment Experience, to help American workers take an active role in planning for retirement by simplifying participation in company-sponsored 401k plans. To implement the e4 system, MassMutual contracted with Ameranth Wireless Inc., a leader in the development of wireless technology innovations based in San Diego, Calif.
MassMutual's No. 1 ranking was revealed yesterday at the InformationWeek 500 Annual Conference in Rancho Mirage, Calif., besting more than 40 entries for wireless innovation. For the past 18 years, InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its prestigious annual listing. Winners were selected based on essays that were evaluated, scored and combined with an overall score to create a framework for identifying the winners in each category.
"We are very excited to be recognized as one of the most innovative companies in America, particularly among such an outstanding universe of wireless technology leaders," says Ian Sheridan, vice president, MassMutual, who was responsible for the creation of e4. "MassMutual is committed to helping American workers and the employers who sponsor 401k plans achieve their retirement goals. Our investment in e4 underscores MassMutual's ongoing dedication to using technology for the benefit of all of our customers."
The proprietary e4 technology has averaged a 90% on-the-spot action rate among nonparticipating employees who attended an e4 meeting from its introduction in early 2005 through June 2006. The e4 system augments MassMutual's equally innovative behavioral approach to retirement education called Prepared USA that identifies trends in retirement saving behavior and offers a program of suggested solutions based on behavioral economics research.
"The InformationWeek 500 honors today's leading companies who set the benchmark for business technology strategies and projects," said InformationWeek publishing director, Fritz Nelson. "We'd like to extend our sincere congratulations to all InformationWeek 500 honorees. This group has prompted fascinating discussion on some of the most forward-looking business technology initiatives to date."
