Transamerica Adds Record Number of Investment Options

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 23, 2006 -- Transamerica Retirement Services ("Transamerica") today announced that it has added more than 50 new investment options, giving clients greater access to leading financial companies and creating one of the most robust retirement plan solutions for small to midsized businesses. The addition of these options enables employers to help their employees better prepare for retirement.

"This is the first time in Transamerica's history that we have added this many investment alternatives to our 401k platform at one time," said Kent Callahan, president and CEO. "Today's plan participant demands more diversification and choice when it comes to deciding what investment strategy style works best for them. By creating an offering that brings together 144 premier investment options accessing 30 leading investment companies, we make it easier for employers to provide a retirement program that is more selective and better suited to meeting the individual needs of their employees."

Launched on September 25, 2006, Transamerica now offers 144 top-tier investment options, including target maturity, strategic allocation, hybrid and other specialty funds. The new investment platform includes investment alternatives from more than 30 leading investment management companies, including Capital Research and Management Company, Fidelity Investments, BlackRock, Inc., The Vanguard Group, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Oppenheimer Funds, Franklin Templeton Investments and First American Funds.

"We understand that plan sponsors and their participants are looking for retirement solutions that will help them reach their financial goals for the future," said Robert Rude, vice president of product development and investments. "Our new investment portfolios will allow employers to provide their workers with investment options that have been chosen to deliver strong and consistent results."

When evaluating and selecting investment options, Transamerica examines six different criteria, including performance measurement, style consistency, fees and expenses, investment process and portfolio composition, management tenure and organization. This process, called the Transamerica Investment Monitor ("TIM"), is conducted quarterly for each investment option using advanced analytical tools provided by Morningstar. A comprehensive Investment Scorecard is then created for each option. To maintain a high level of objectivity and impartiality, Standard & Poor's Investment Advisory Services LLC – one of the world's leading providers of investment advice to the financial community – also reviews the investment option lineup annually and issues an opinion as to whether it meets with their rigorous standards of appropriateness for defined contribution plans.
