NTSAA & ASPPA to Launch New Magazine for 403(b) Plan Advisors

ARLINGTON, VA, December 20, 2010 -- The National Tax Sheltered Accounts Association (NTSAA) and The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) today announced the launch of a new magazine for advisors serving the 403(b) and 457 market.

403(b) Advisor is a quarterly magazine designed to help 403(b) and 457 plan advisors improve their skills, enhance their knowledge, and conduct their business in a way that is professional, ethical, efficient and creative.

"We believe this magazine can act as a resource for the often underserved nonprofit sector—educators, healthcare, government and nonprofit employees and the plan advisors who serve them," said Chris DeGrassi, president of NTSAA.

In 2009, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) implemented new 403(b) regulations that changed the regulatory and marketing landscape and made managing retirement funds arduous and complex. To comply, school districts had to adopt written 403(b) plan documents and many decided to hire third-party administrators to assist with transfers, exchanges, product, and vendor selection.

"Since the IRS regulations were released in 2009, participation has not increased—in fact less than 22 percent of eligible employees participate in 403(b) plans versus more than 75 percent of eligible employees who participate in 401(k) plans. We believe the magazine will provide information to those who serve the retirement needs of educators and healthcare, government and nonprofit employees," said DeGrassi.

"Our recent research survey with Brightwork Partners shows the 403b Market is growing (2010 TPA Owners Survey). We're excited to meet that need by offering 403b Advisor as a resource for industry intelligence, legislative and regulatory updates impacting advisory firms, and sales and marketing advice to help advisors grow their business," said Brian Graff, executive director/CEO, ASPPA.

403(b) Advisor will debut at the NTSAA Annual Conference on February 2, 2011 in Orlando, Florida. To receive a complimentary subscription visit our website here.
