ING Appoints Northeast 401k Small-Mid Market Staff
WINDSOR, CT, September 4, 2012 -- ING U.S.'s Retirement business announced today several personnel appointments to support the company's small-mid corporate retirement plans market.
Jeff Darnowski was hired as a client relationship manager; Thomas Fleming was promoted to regional vice president of sales and Susan Shapiro, currently regional vice president (RVP) of service in the New Jersey region, has taken on the added responsibility of becoming the RVP of service for the expanded New York City/New Jersey region. Fleming and Shapiro took on their new roles earlier this summer and Darnowski's appointment was effective August 13.
Based in New York, Darnowski is responsible for ongoing plan sponsor relationship management and service delivery for ING U.S.'s existing 401k retirement plan sponsors located in metro New York. He most recently managed the International Benefits area at AIG. Prior to that, he was director of Retirement Operations at Lord Abbet & Company where he was responsible for client service delivery in the company's small market 401k program. Jeff also held several client service positions in the Retirement Group at Merrill Lynch.
In her expanded role as regional vice president of service, Shapiro is responsible for leading the service teams for both the New Jersey and New York City territories.
"As seasoned client services professionals, Jeff and Susan bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our client management team," said Bill Elmslie, head of National Intermediary Distribution and Service for ING U.S. Retirement. "Their expertise will help ING U.S. Retirement further strengthen its relationships with our plan sponsors and the financial professionals who serve them."
In his new role as regional vice president of sales based in New York City, Fleming is responsible for the sales and distribution of 401k retirement plans to the wirehouse channel in metro New York, Long Island and northern New Jersey. Fleming has been with ING U.S. for over 12 years working in various sales and service roles, most recently as head of Inside Sales where he managed the internal sales desk for small-mid corporate retirement plans.
"Tom's appointment to this position follows an extensive career as a leader who brings a high-level of industry knowledge and management experience to the role. This experience and his strong distribution relationships are an asset to our sales team and will be invaluable as we continue to help our valued distribution partners grow and manage their business," added Elmslie.
Shapiro and Fleming report to Patrick Bello, senior vice president of sales for the northeast and Darnowski reports to Shapiro.
