CIGNA Teams with YAHOO! For New Personalized Web Portal

Philadelphia, PA., June 24, 2002 -- Beginning today, millions of Americans will be able to use a new personalized Web portal from CIGNA, offering easy and secure online access to up-to-date, individually tailored information and transaction tools to help them better manage their health care and retirement accounts. The new service, myCIGNA.com, will be free to CIGNA's 16 million health and retirement plan participants and is being launched in collaboration with Yahoo! and Sun Microsystems.

"Employees are looking for simpler, easier ways to help manage two of the most important pillars of their well being -- their health care and financial security," said H. Edward Hanway, chairman and CEO of CIGNA Corporation. "They want more choices and control, not more confusion and complexity. People shouldn't have to struggle trying to access and update their health coverage and retirement savings. Our new Web portal helps take the worry and work out of workplace benefits."

Consumer Trends -- More Decisions, Greater Control

Trends in current and future benefits plan design reflect employees' desire to become more actively engaged in the management of their health care and retirement accounts. But while companies work to provide employees with greater choice, with new benefits packages that are more customized and cost-effective, employees, in turn, need better and more powerful tools to manage these new offerings.

With myCIGNA.com, users will have access to online capabilities that offer greater clarity, simplicity and control over their most critical workplace benefits. The new Web portal is unique in that it offers:

  • Greater Personalization -- Instead of merely popping up a user's name accompanied by a generic set of widely-used Web links, myCIGNA.com offers up-to-date, comprehensive information about a person's individual health care and retirement accounts and presents this information in a way that allows for easier tracking and control. The service also lets plan participants set preferences so that continually updated Web resources are aligned with their stage of life or health needs.
  • More Benefits Integration -- myCIGNA.com provides access to information in one place for CIGNA's health care coverages (medical, dental and pharmacy) and CIGNA's retirement programs (pension, 401k, non- qualified plans and online brokerage services). Additionally, transaction tools and updated account information available online are well integrated with CIGNA's other forms of customer care and support -- everything from paper-based claims documents and resource guides to live and voice-response customer call center services.
  • Expanded Access -- myCIGNA.com will be available free of charge to virtually all new and existing CIGNA HealthCare and CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services plan participants, who will be able to access their personalized data from work, at home or on the road, through their company Intranets, over the Internet at http://www.CIGNA.com, and from their individual My Yahoo! home pages.

Teaming With YAHOO! and Sun Microsystems

Based on technology, applications and aggregated content made available through Yahoo!'s business communications and corporate portal division, Yahoo! Enterprise Solutions (http://enterprise.yahoo.com), myCIGNA.com has been developed by CIGNA, utilizing Sun Microsystems hardware and software.

"What CIGNA is delivering represents a new generation of Internet services and will be of tremendous value as people start managing their essential health care and financial benefits online," said Jim Fanella, senior vice president, Yahoo! Enterprise Solutions. "This new resource will deliver security, peace of mind, and make companies the 'information heroes' to their employees."

"By offering personalized Web benefits pages for millions of health care and retirement plan customers, CIGNA has the capacity to improve the benefits experience of literally millions of American workers and their families," said Masood Jabbar, executive vice president, Global Sales Operations, Sun Microsystems. "CIGNA is transforming the health care landscape by turning business processes to Web services and we are delighted to be providing the Sun(TM) ONE technologies and architecture to make that possible."

MYCIGNA.COM -- Features and Availability

Among other things, myCIGNA.com enables consumers to:

  • Instantly track and review medical claims and other health account information -- CIGNA HealthCare members will be able to review their specific medical and dental plan benefits information and check status of a claim. They also will be able to update personal information, locate, select or change health care providers and order CIGNA HealthCare ID cards online.
  • Access a consolidated, interactive snapshot of their retirement plan -- CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services plan participants will have access to a single and complete view of all their retirement accounts. The service also pulls in and presents regularly updated balances from online brokerage accounts as well as a person's Social Security account. It also provides access to customized online financial education and retirement/savings tools.
  • Perform online transactions such as ordering medications -- Through myCIGNA.com, CIGNA HealthCare members will have anywhere/anytime access to CIGNA's Tel-Drug online pharmacy which offers information and home delivery of prescription drugs. In addition, through the Web portal, they'll be able to access the CIGNA Healthy Rewards(R) alternative medicine program, which currently includes discounts for acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage, cosmetic dentistry, laser vision correction surgery and hearing care services.
  • Receive personalized investment and health news -- Plan participants will have instant and easy access to timely, customized health and retirement savings information delivered via offerings ranging from the CIGNA HealthCare Healthy Babies(R) program to CIGNA's financial education program Academy by CIGNA(R), as well as Yahoo! health and financial services content.

Effective June 24, CIGNA's Web portal services will be available immediately to all CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services plan participants as well as to CIGNA customers enrolled in both CIGNA HealthCare and CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services plans. Beginning July 21, most of CIGNA HealthCare's 14.3 million health plan participants also will have access to the myCIGNA.com portal.
